General Information

What is the difference between an off-the-rack shirt and a VM shirt?

Off-the-rack shirts are mass produced in standard sizes, usually resulting in a mediocre finish and fit. Each VM shirt is individually cut and sewn by hand in single needle stitching by one of our master tailors. Tailored to your exact measurements and specifications, you will receive nothing less than the perfect shirt.

How much is a VM shirt?

VM shirts range from $55 to $75. Prices are based on the fabric selected.

What if I can't take my own measurements? Do I have any other options?

As an alternative to providing your measurements, you can provide some basic information on sizes you normally purchase off-the-rack. We will convert these sizes to the necessary measurements and tailor your shirt to the best fit possible.

Alternatively, if you are located in the Washington D.C. or New York metro areas, you can schedule a consultation with one of our master tailors by contacting us.

What guarantee does VM Clothiers offer?

Our goal at VM Clothiers is to provide you with a perfect fitting shirt.  The measurements and style of each shirt is verified against the original order form before being shipped.  If the shirt you receive does not match either the measurements or style specifications in the original order form, please contact us with a description of the matter and we will provide you with instructions on mailing the shirt(s) back to us.  We will make the necessary alterations and mail the shirt(s) back to you at no additional charge.

Besides the pattern, what's the difference between all of the fabrics?

Fabrics come in both 1-ply and 2-ply. 1-ply fabrics are woven using individual threads, whereas each thread used to weave 2-ply fabrics is made up of two individual threads twisted tightly together. This results in a smoother and silkier finish.

The thickness of the yarn also differentiates fabrics. The finer the yarn, the higher the number (120's, 140's, 160's). Although they cost more, finer yarns usually result in a smoother and more luxurious fabric.

Why can't I order suits online?

A perfect fitting suit takes more than just the right measurements. There are several other details which are best captured during a consultation with one of our master tailors. Please contact us to schedule a consultation.

Where does VM Clothiers travel to?

VM Clothiers services the Washington D.C. and New York metro areas year-round. If you are located outside of these areas and have a group of individuals who are interested in tailoring shirts or suits, we can schedule a private consultation with your group.

Is there a minimum order?

No, there is no minimum order.

Will my measurements be filed for future orders?

Yes. Your measurements are kept on file for future orders. If you are an existing customer and are logged in during the order process, your existing measurements will be retrieved. You can either submit the existing measurements as they are, or you can make modifications if they have changed.

How often do you update your fabric collection?

We have two collections of fabrics each year, one in the Spring and the other in the Fall.

Do you share any customer information with other organizations?

Care Instructions

VM shirts can be laundered at home or commercially. If laundering your shirts at home, we recommend hand washing or machine washing in warm water. We also recommend hang drying your shirts instead of tumble drying.

Since the majority of our fabrics are either 100% cotton or a cotton blend, they are susceptible to shrinkage.  We allow for slight shrinkage when taking your measurements but we recommend following our care instructions to avoid further shrinkage.
